The freshwater biome is made up of lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers. They cover up 20% of the earth and spread out all around the world. Over 700 different species of fish live in a freshwater biome, besides fish freshwater biomes hold a home for crocodiles,hippopotamous,turtle,frogs,dolphins and many more species.The Nile River located in South America is the longest freshwater river in the world, while the lagest freshwater biome is the Florida Everglades. During the summer the temperatures can range from 4-22 degrees celsius. Durng the winter, the temperature can range from 0-4 degrees celsius.
There are a lot of diferent species of animals that can survive in fresh water like turtle, frogs, and fish but one of the rarest is the freshwater dolphin.The Freshwater dolphin swim in the earths mightiest rivers including the Ganges, Indus, Yangtze, Mekong, and amazon, growing to about 2.4 meters long and may be white, pink, brown, yellow, black and grey. Most can only survive in freshwater but they're some that can survive in both salt water and freshwater. They are blind and are an indangered species due to polution and the construction of damns.
The cattail (Typha Angustifolia) is common around freshwater biomes it has a hotdog shaped flower it is common and usefull native plant that can grow anywhere near a freshwater biome.They filter runoff as it flows into a lake, it helps reduce nutrients and mud into the lake from the surrounding land. They provide habitat for many species of wildlife and birds wich feed and nest on the cattails.
